Duran Duran is the name of a pop group from Birmingham, UK. After their initial formation in the post-punk era, they began to have hit singles in the UK in 1981 and went on to achieve worldwide fame and notoriety. The group has undergone various line-up changes over the years but as of 2017 the core-members Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, John Taylor and Andy Taylor currently form the group.

Human League connections[]

  • Duran Duran's first and second albums were produced by Colin Thurston who had produced The Human League's debut album Reproduction in 1979
  • The two groups both appeared on Top of the Pops on 15 May 1981 when The Human League were at no. 15 with The Sound of the Crowd. Duran Duran performed their second single 'Careless Memories' on the show for the first and last time. It is unknown whether the two bands met on this occasion.
  • Both groups appeared again on Top of the Pops on 18 November 1982 when The Human League were at no. 9 with Mirror Man, while Duran Duran performed Rio which was at no. 13. The show was presented by John Peel. Two weeks later Mirror Man was at no. 2 while Rio was at no. 10.
  • Like The Human League, Duran Duran also released albums in 1981 (Duran Duran), 1986 (Notorious), 1990 (Liberty), and 1995 (Thank You).
